Integrated Design Research (IDR) Journal

All manuscripts submitted to the Integrated Design Research (IDR) Journal undergo a structured peer review process to ensure academic quality, relevance, and integrity.

IDR 'Peer review Process’ for clarity

IDR 'Submission Process’ for clarity

1. Submission and Editorial Screening

All submissions are first assessed by the editorial team to determine their suitability for the journal. At this stage, manuscripts are evaluated based on the following. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be desk rejected or returned to authors for revision prior to peer review:

  • Alignment with the journal’s aims and scope
  • Originality and relevance of the research
  • Clarity of argument and presentation
  • Conceptual and methodological rigour
  • Completeness and quality of the submission
  • Adherence to formatting and submission guidelines

2. Ethical and Author Responsibilities

Before submission, authors are responsible for the following and submissions that do not meet ethical standards will not be considered for review:

  • Obtaining permission to reproduce any copyrighted material (images, datasets, documents, etc.)
  • Ensuring that all listed authors have approved the submission
  • Securing ethical clearance where required, in accordance with institutional and national regulations

3. Double Blind Peer Review

The IDR Journal follows a double blind peer review process, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to a minimum of two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

  • Contribution to design knowledge
  • Theoretical and methodological soundness
  • Clarity and coherence of the argument
  • Relevance to the field and journal scope
  • Quality of analysis and interpretation

4. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editorial team will make one of the following decisions.Authors will receive anonymised reviewer comments along with the editorial decision:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revisions Required
  • Major Revisions Required
  • Reject

5. Revision and Resubmission

If revisions are required, authors are expected to:

  • Submit a revised manuscript addressing all reviewer comments
  • Provide a response document outlining how each comment has been addressed
  • Revised submissions may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation.

This process may continue until the manuscript meets the required standards for publication.

6. Final Acceptance

A manuscript is accepted for publication once it has successfully addressed all reviewer and editorial comments and meets the journal’s standards of quality and contribution.

The peer review process ensures that all published work contributes meaningfully to advancing pluralistic, cross disciplinary design research in alignment with the aims of the IDR Journal.
