Background

This collaboration, initiated as a pilot project in 2022 and rapidly gaining momentum in 2023, signifies our dedicated efforts to revolutionize packaging design within Sri Lanka’s export landscape. With the inception of the esteemed Packaging Innovation Hub at Moratuwa University and the reinvigoration of the EDB’s National Packaging Centre, this year’s concentrated exploration into packaging solutions for fruits, vegetables, and nuts targets the discerning European Union market. The primary objective is a strategic shift from conventional bulk packaging to more lucrative unit packaging, envisaged to drive increased profitability and market appeal.

Key Objectives

At the heart of this ambitious initiative lies a determination to revolutionize the export packaging sector. Our focus revolves around generating innovative solutions, exploring uncharted revenue streams, and augmenting product value. The forum will showcase the journey undertaken by students specializing in Media and Communication Designs at Level III as part of the ‘Packaging Project.’ It will illustrate how they meticulously grasp the intricacies of packaging design. The project highlighted the monumental significance of packaging in enhancing product visibility, ensuring protection, and effectively communicating with consumers. Beyond aesthetics, the pedagogical foundation emphasizes practical aspects such as usability, material sustainability, and seamless brand integration.

This showcase stands as a testament to the extraordinary talents and visionary capabilities of our Design graduates, encapsulating their creations to inspire the next generation of designers, potential exporters, local packaging industries, and material manufacturers. Our unwavering objective is to propel the packaging industry’s growth trajectory through innovation.

Inviting Investors to Commercialize

We aspire to commercialize at least three of these groundbreaking designs. We invite collaboration with packaging-related industries or individual investors through our Packaging Innovation Hub to realize this collective vision.
